British police launch investigation against Egyptian billionaire al-Fayed

In the UK, police have launched an investigation into allegations against the former owner of London department store Harrods, Egyptian billionaire Mohamed al-Fayed, Sky News reported on November 27.

“The mass allegations against the former Harrods and Fulham boss span a period from 1977 to 2014, with the youngest victim being just 13 when she was allegedly targeted by the billionaire,” the channel reported.

More than 20 women have also come forward to the Metropolitan Police with similar allegations of incidents between 2005 and 2023, but the businessman was never charged until his death at the age of 94 in August last year.

Since then, about 150 people have contacted police, 90 of whom have been identified as potential victims, and officers are now looking into al-Fayed’s associates who are suspected of facilitating the violence, Sky News said.

According to police, more than five people are currently under investigation, with no arrests yet.
