At the British University of the Extra, scientists studied the properties of beetroot juice and found out that it is a storehouse of energy for the muscles, and when using it, they work much more efficiently, Daily Mail reports.
Moreover, thanks to a series of tests, researchers have established a mechanism that allows beetroot juice to so miraculously influence human muscle tissue. For the experiment, scientists invited seven healthy men to perform a series of squats after they drink beetroot juice, as well as at the second stage instead of juice, a currant-placebo was offered. Observation of changes was carried out using magnetic resonance scanning.
It turned out that after the use of beet juice in the blood, the content of one of the nitrates doubles, while the rate of use of ATP (adenosineric acid), which is a source of energy, was reduced. Which ultimately allowed the muscles to work more efficiently and spend less oxygen on it.
According to scientists, the best result is achieved with a combination of regular physical exertion and beetroot juice. In particular, studies demonstrate an increase in the body’s performance during training by 16%.
