About 5% of beef products that were investigated in the European Union contain cone. It was these results of the audit that were published by the European Commission.
According to laboratory studies, it also turned out that on average one of the two hundred selected meat samples contained traces of phenylbutazone dangerous to human health (a drug intended for the treatment of horses from inflammatory processes).
As the representatives of the European Commission emphasized, in this case the problem is not at all that all the products in which the beef is replaced by Konina are dangerous for people. The main problem is precisely the fact of food. “Restoring the confidence of European consumers and trading partners after this scandal is vital for the EU economy,” EU Commissioner on Healthcare and Protection of Consumer Rights Tonio Borg emphasized.
It was decided to conduct such a checkered product check in February. It was then that Europe covered the “meat scandal”: in some countries, beef meat was found, which contained cheaper horses.
